Mumandi

I was a crybaby. My mom changed jobs to work in the kindergarten I attended so I could finally concentrate on animals and arithmetics knowing she was somewhere in the building. She knew I'd grow out of it eventually (I now live away from home!), but she did it anyways. Moms are cool like that.

To all the moms both near and far, happy Mother's Day

It's my first time traveling to Australia and my first stop was Perth, where I chanced upon this Hijacked III photography exhibition in the city. The collection, although small, had impressive works showcased. There were more pictures taken, but sadly they are all trapped in the digital camera, so here are some I snapped with my phone that I thought were quite 'OTL'-ish :)

I'm in Melbourne at the moment and I'll be sharing more pictures in a bit. I'm enjoying the city's mish mash of genres and styles - a bit like where a boho-anything-goes backpacker would meet the prim, preppy boy next door for some strong coffee. I didn't quite expect such an interesting vibe and blend of culture. Perhaps this is why many Malaysians choose to live in Melbourne - it's got a bit of everything.

In all honesty, I'm not too crazy about the hairy gloves and glossy, boxy pintucked dress, but I think there's something really cool and endearing about this oddball shot! It feels like the model left her best angles at home so she could put on that wig and flap her arms like she just don't care!

On this note of offbeat eccentricity, I wish a very Happy Chinese New Year to everyone celebrating, and to all enjoying the holidays, we hope you have some unexpectedly fun and meaningful moments to remember your January by.

Less adobe, more abode

When my nose is so often snugged up close to the illuminated screens of electronics, it's easy to ignore the fact my home, and not just my homepage, could use some tlc.

Ok so my sofa's wooden frame is poking out of the fabric layers, I have bedroom pillows for cushions and my bean bag lost most of its beans. So, yes, guilty as charged.

So, I'm seriously thinking of getting a new sofa-bed for the apartment living room and I've been trawling the net for some ideas. In planning home-improvements, the goal is to make the living space conducive for thinking, working, brainstorming, entertaining and recharging.

Then I remembered a great local interiors website I stumbled-upon months ago called Home@8. Simple, tasteful and local! Created by tv/radio host Serena C and her partner Jade, Home@8 is such an inspiration with latest furnishing trends, DIY ideas, sustainable homes and space-saving tips for our 21st century problems. Have a look and see if you agree.

My only gripe is I wish it was updated more often. But hey, who are we to criticise? :p

Pre-fab homes can be fab too.

I know it feels like we're cheating on fashion with our recent posts about anything but. BUT they'll be back. For now, we just gotta embrace what life throws at us.

Anyone wants to post their style wishlist / resolutions for 2012 here on Ode to Liberty?

Write us!

Music of the weekend!

Hey, guys! It's been awhile! We've been trying to juggle the holidays (wait, they're over!), dayjobs and online distractions with OTL updates and it's pretty obvious we're bad at multitasking :( But there's hope! 2012 is here, and we're hitting Reboot.

Our icrebreaker of choice is... an excellent post-breakup song! Here are the guys from Walk off the Earth and Sarah Blackwood, performing Gotye's cover of the song "Somebody That I Used to Know." Awesome vocals and finger-space coordination.

I think the song goes well with the crazy hot weather..? Enjoy! :)

PS - Have you seen some of the new stuff we posted on our Shop?

Those MIFW nights

Malaysian International Fashion Week came and went, without much fuss in the 'corridors' of Ode to Liberty. Jude and I were at work during the day so we couldn't make as many shows as we'd like. The ones that we made, though, we enjoyed.

Bernard Chandran had his own show, so I guess he should have his own post. That soon. Fow now, some pics from our vantage point at the Asia Magic Gala.

Honouring the designers

Thing I like most about going for such shows is meeting the designers all in one place, and finding out what their latest projects are. We did some catching up, and some people-watching (discreetly, of course).

I must say walking on the pebbled roads was quite a challenge at Zebra Square. Let's hope the next time around, there would be proper roads leading into the main marquee. That said, I'm glad MIFW has a place to call home now.

(Captions: Socks & pebbled path combo, Baharim, Silas and his Pugh, Syahmi the male model, OTL with Khoon Hooi & Teresa)

Till next time.
